Last week, the City of Mill Valley received a state
Safe Routes to Schools grant for $363,130. The grant for this project was one of only 85 selected from 400 applications submitted statewide. This is great news for our kids who will benefit from a variety of safety improvements as they make their way to and from school. Some of the planned improvements include a pedestrian crossing beacon at Almonte and Miller; upgraded school area signs and pavement markings; and wider sidewalks and curb extensions on East Blithedale at Elm and Alta Vista. Construction of the improvements is slated for 2011/12.
