Take a minute to acknowledge our incredible Edna Maguire teachers this week! To honor them, we're asking each student to bring a single flower to school for his or teacher this Wednesday, May 16. Our teachers give so much to our students--this week is our chance to let them know how much we appreciate it!

The end of the year is coming and that means one class is just about to win a pizza or ice cream party for best attendance at the garden work days! Right now, the second and fourth grades are tied with 33 participants each. But the other grades are in hot pursuit, so don't give up yet!
Join us this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. for the LAST Garden Work Day of the year--and your final chance to increase your grade's numbers and win that party! EVERYONE IS INVITED! We promise it will be a fun afternoon working alongside your classmates, friends and teachers as we get the garden ready for summer! Whole Foods will keep everyone happy with drinks and snacks. Contact Saor Stetler (sstetler@earthlink.net) for more information.

Our school--and our kids--depend on our many classified employees: P.E. and RAMP teachers; aides; and maintenance, custodial and hot lunch staff. Please make a point of thanking them for their service during Classified Employee Appreciation Week!

Beginning this June, our beloved school will get a much-needed facelift! Edna Maguire has been operating since 1956 and the wear-and-tear of the thousands of students who have learned in her rooms has taken its toll. Thanks to the voters of Mill Valley, the old school will be demolished and rebuilt over the next 18 months. Please join us on campus on June 3, from 3-6 p.m., as we celebrate the past 56 years at Edna and get ready for our school's exciting new future! There will be live music, food to purchase and plenty of photo opportunities!

ELEMENTARY SPRING CHORUS CONCERT
MONDAY AND TUESDAY, MAY 14 & 15, 7:00pm
Mill Valley Middle School Gymnasium
All singers need to be in their spots on the risers at 6:45pm!
Family and Friends of Edna Maguire chorus members are invited to attend the concert on Tuesday, May 15. On Monday, please use the drop-off zone at MVMS to drop students off at 6:45pm, and return between 7:50 and 8:00 to pick up your child.
Concert attire is black on the bottom and white on top. (Black pants or skirt, black shoes, white collared shirts and blouses preferred, -no logos)
Because we have such a large audience, it is very important that parents attend on one night only! This will help create a safe environment and a better experience for everyone!

Students in second through fifth grades have until May 18 to take the California Standards Tests (CSTs). The tests measure students' progress toward achieving California's state-adopted academic content standards in English-Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, and history-social science. Teachers will determine the times and dates their classes will take the tests. Please check in with your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Stop by the front of the school this Friday, May 4, between 8:15- 9 a.m. to perk up your morning. The year is flying by, so take a minute to catch your breath and enjoy a hot cup of coffee with friends. And be sure to stop by the Kiddo! table while you're there!

Edna Maguire's PTA and Principal Lisa Zimmer invite you to the multi-purpose room to see the architect's drawings of our new school! Tim Ryan, Director of Operations and Maintenance for the Mill Valley School District, will present and explain the architect's drawings that relate to each phase of the construction. He will also answer questions you may have about what will be happening this summer (and during the next 15 month). Pete Norgaard, Program Manager for Van Pelt Construction Services, will also be on hand to answer questions.
Our school will be completely demolished and then re-constructed from the foundation up. This is a HUGE project and will affect EVERY Edna student, staff member, family and neighbor. You owe it to yourself to get informed! You can also download the Edna Maguire Construction Time Line.pdf

Edna Maguire is excited to be participating in the first-ever National Bike to School Day, scheduled for May 9, in coordination with the League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Month. Be sure to set your alarm clock a little earlier than usual so your child can join in the fun and bike to school. If biking's not an option, please make plans for your child to travel in a green mode--walk, carpool--with friends or in a group from your neighborhood. See you on the bike path!
